I have been receiving a lot of inquiries about Puerto Vallarta’s North Shore area lately, and specifically our new listing in Punta de Mita HAIXA 403 . I want to share with you some additional info on this area, please don’t hesitate to contact me with more questions, I am happy to be helpful!
What is the Punta de Mita, North Shore exactly?
Puerto Vallarta is located right in the middle of the 2nd largest bay in the world! Downtown PV and Nuevo Vallarta are considered the middle of the Bay, but anything North of Nuevo Vallarta then becomes the “North Shore”. This includes larger towns like
- La Cruz de Hunacaxtle
- Punta de Mita
- Litibu/ Punta de Mita
- Higuera Blanca
- San Pancho
- Lo de Marcos
How far from the airport are these towns?
Punta de Mita and the North Shore has the wonderful advantage of having relatively easy and quick access from the airport. This is due to having a more modern 4 lane highway as opposed to PV and Southshore cobblestones and 2 lane highway. From the airport to downtown Bucerias is just 15 minutes. From the airport to downtown Lo de Marcos (the furthest North Shore Town) is about 45 minutes. There is generally less traffic in the North Shore for this reason, although the traffic lights through Bucerias can sometimes back up.
Where exactly is Haixa located?
Haixa is located on the “Old Highway” which links Sayulita and Punta de Mita. This highway has recently been repaved and it is gorgeous! It is a smooth, wide 4 lane highway which swiftly connects towns like Litibu, Higuera Blanca, and Playa Carreyeros to larger towns. This is a very popular area for road biking as well with incredible views! Right in the middle of Punta de Mita and Sayulita, there is a large gated entrance into the Litibu Fonatur development. Through these gates you will find Haixa, as well as a golf course and gorgeous beach.
How close to “big city” amenities is Haixa?
On the North Shore, Bucerias and Nuevo Vallarta are the biggest towns with the most amenities. The largest grocery store to Haixa is La Comer on the border of Bucerias and Nuevo Vallarta. Nuevo Vallarta has a mall with a Wal-Mart, Movie Theater, banks, Auto-Zone, etc. And of course there is always PV just another 30 minutes down the road. Living on the North Shore gives residents the amazing opportunity to shop local and from more mom and pop stores and boutique businesses.

Well-known among both the local and expat communities of Puerto Vallarta, Bonito Kitchen & Bar is an Asian eatery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with creative craft cocktails, in a cozy and casual ambiance.
The venue was previously located at De Los Tules 325, in Colonia Jardines de las Gaviotas; and is now venturing into the heart of the city with its one-of-a-kind culinary proposal. At the former location, customers will still be able to enjoy some of their favorite Bonito Kitchen dishes at the restaurant Ramen Ya, owned by the same family.
Owner Francie Nguyen explains that Bonito Kitchen & Bar introduces her family’s recipes, renditions of classic dishes from Vietnam, Japan, Korea and Taiwan made from scratch. It will feature its own Asian herb garden and made-to-order dumpling station. At this new location, the establishment will also introduce Bonito Café, a new concept that will offer ready-made meals available for takeout and curbside pick up. Those eating in will enjoy a stunning garden setting and views overlooking the Rio Cuale, from a terrace adjacent to the Cuale bridge.

I personally am very excited for this second location. I am lucky enough to live within walking distance from their original locale, but am happy to have a downtown lunch or dinner option when in the Old Town and Romantic Zones. They have a very unique mixology menu with some beverages *with and without alcohol* that will entice you!

There are a variety of grocery shopping options for all types of shoppers. If you live downtown in the Romantic Zone, Emiliano Zapata, or 5 de Diciembre neighborhoods, you are within walking distance to a large number of open-air “mom and pop” grocers. For the last week, I can’t help but notice that our sultry summer weather has shifted! The mornings are very breezy and cool, it’s raining less and the sun is setting earlier. 7:53 pm to be exact! The Fall equinox took place just a few days ago, and even though we are in the tropics, you can still feel the change of seasons here.
In general, our weather begins to “improve” in October. We see less rainfall which cuts down on humidity, and temperatures begin to fall. The sun continues its southern track across the sky and means less direct overhead exposure for us as well. I must admit, summertime in the tropics are very magical. Yes, it’s hot, but the storms make for some spectacular evenings and lush bright green foliage. But undoubtedly, the winter months here in PV are truly the best! Perfect beach days for 6 months straight, I will take it!
We’re not quite out of the woods yet. The months of September and October historically have produced more serious hurricanes than the earlier summer months typically do. Infamous Hurricane Kenna hit Vallarta and caused some damage on October 25, 2002. One year ago on September 29, 2019, the heavy rains from Tropical Storm Narda flooded and caused extensive damage to the village of Yelapa in the southern part of our Bay.
Visiting Puerto Vallarta in the Fall means you will be privy to some very fun cultural events. September 16 is Mexican Independence Day and is a great way to celebrate with the locals. At midnight on the 15th, there is the “Grito” where participants re-enact the speech made by Miguel Hidalgo which sparked the Mexican War for Independence. November 1 and 2 are the Dia De Los Muertos celebrations which are absolutely INCREDIBLE! One of my favorite cultural events in Mexico.
